DYNAMIC SOCIAL ACTION
The Social Welfare Services of Polytechnic Institute of Coimbra seek to guarantee, through student support action, that no individual be denied higher education due to the lack of financial means. Hence its philosophy is to guarantee success in the admission and attendance of higher education to all of the Polytechnic’s students, especially for students in financial difficulty and/or those living outside Coimbra.
These targets are fulfilled by providing the IPC’s students with social support, namely:
- Scholarships
- Food
- Accommodation
- Health care
- Cultural and sports activities
- Other types of support for school expenses.
At present the Social Welfare Service has halls of residence with total accommodation capacity of about four hundred beds, several cafeterias and a clinic with the following specialties: general practice and family planning, odontology, alternative medicines and psychology.
As for appointments in general practice and family planning, besides the IPC’s clinic, students may count on the medical services provided by another medical office in Coimbra Institute of Engineering.
Social Welfare Service also has several sports facilities, for example a weight training and cardio-fitness gym and a rugby/football green field.
